A Future where art and science combine and collide

"Musical weirdo and visionary" Beatie Wolfe is an artist who has beamed her music into space, been appointed a UN Women role model for innovation, and held an acclaimed solo exhibition of her ‘world first’ album designs at the Victoria & Albert Museum. Wolfe's latest innovation is an environmental protest piece built using 800,000 years of our planet’s climate data to visualise rising CO2 levels. From Green to Red was unveiled at the Nobel Prize Summit, premiered at the London Design Biennale, and will be at COP26.

​Love Ssega (Ssegawa-Ssekintu Kiwanuka) is a British-Ugandan musician, producer and climate activist. He is on the founding committee of Brian Eno-led music climate initiative EarthPercent and his recent multi-arts Season For Change commission \'93Airs of the South Circular\'94 was a creative response to highlight the toxic effects of air pollution on the Black population in South London. It reached 100,000 residents across Lewisham Borough and was supported by Arts Council England and Paul Hamlyn Foundation

Through organisations like The Scouts, young people have always been at the forefront of taking meaningful action to make a difference. The climate crisis is no exception - 57 million Scouts worldwide recognise the necessity of young leadership when facing this monumental challenge. In this session, hear from UK Chief Scout and World Scouting’s Chief Ambassador, Bear Grylls and inspiring young leaders on how making an individual promise to combat the climate crisis as well as working in groups and engaging decision makers can lead to a meaningful change.

As the realities of Climate Change set in, many of us are becoming familiar to feelings of Eco-Anxiety. However, increasingly often Eco-Anxiety is being coopted under a white, privileged definition when the reality of what Eco-Anxiety entails is very different surrounding Most Marginalised people and Areas. In this panel, we start to unpack these layers, in order to diversify our understanding of Eco-Anxiety.

The Amazon rainforest is one of the world’s most important ecosystems, responsible for absorbing huge amounts of C02. But as it slowly disappears at the hands of extractivist industries, it is more important than ever to find new solutions for saving it.
In Tree of Plenty, we witness the story of one community who brought a tree back from the brink of extinction, by turning it into a core economic provider. This female-led movement showed their island, and the world, that the Amazon’s natural capital can be leveraged without being abused. Featuring leaders of the movement and Nobel Prize-winning climate scientist Carlos Nobre, Tree of Plenty is a glimpse into “Amazon 4.0” - the next step in saving the rainforest.
Redress the Future, Episode 2
ReDressing Waste will focus on the forward-thinking fashionistas who are using waste products to make some of fashion’s most sought after pieces. In a circular, sustainable world, there is no such thing as waste - anything can be either recycled or upcycled, and with fashion currently being responsible for vast amounts of waste, it’s clear something needs to change. This episode meets the designers and creators who are creating garms out of garbage, having realised that what a lot of people think of as useless, is actually a valuable resource for creating new, beautifully designed clothing. Because when it comes to creating a sustainable future for fashion, forget waste, let’s use what was once useless.

Presented by Jack Harries, it highlights the key themes at the forefront of young people’s minds today, in a clear and relatable way. This episode highlights how climate change is first and foremost a social justice issue, looking at the intersection between racism and climate change and exploring the need for a just transition.

But what’s behind those iconic photographs that inspire hearts and minds, those images that expose the world’s most urgent issues? Following world renowned environmental photographer Kiliii Yuyan, as he heads out to investigate the decline of the Southern Resident Killer Whales off the coast of Seattle, A Lens on the World not only uncovers the knowledge, dedication and passion it takes to be an environmental photographer, it also highlights why incredible imagery plays an important role in solving the issues the world faces.
